Sophia Anna Bush (born July 8, 1982) is an American actress. She is perhaps best known for her role as Brooke Davis in the CW series One Tree Hill and for portraying Grace Andrews in the horror remake The Hitcher. A stunning brunette and former beauty queen, Sophia Bush made a name for herself as the seductive vixen Brooke Davis on The WB series "One Tree Hill"(2003- ). Though often cast as the flirtatious bad-girl, Bush's own down-to-earth persona added a touching vulnerability to many of her roles. Sophia Bush, an only child, was born and raised in Pasadena, California to Charles William Bush, who is an advertising and celebrity photographer working in the United States today, and Maureen, a photography studio manager. She attended Westridge School for Girls (Pasadena) and the University of Southern California and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, where she served as Social Chair. Bush attended USC for three years before getting the role of Brooke Davis on One Tree Hill (2003). In 2000, she was the Tournament of Roses Parade Queen. Bush is of French-Canadian and Italian ancestry. Bush made her first big screen appearance in the comedy Van Wilder as Sally (the freshman who seduces Van and doesn't know who Air Supply is). Since then, she has made appearances in several television shows including Nip/Tuck, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, and Punk'd. Bush's first screen role arrived in the form of college student, Sally, in "National Lampoon's Van Wilder" (2002) opposite Ryan Reynolds. Next came a small role in the HBO arsonist thriller "Point of Origin" (2002), starring Ray Liotta and John Leguizamo. Soon, Bush was cast in her first major role opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger and Nick Stahl in "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" (2003). Though Bush began principle photography on the film, director Jonathan Mostow changed his mind and deemed her too young for the role of Stahl's love interest, Kate Brewster. The 19-year old simply did not look the part of her mid-twenties character. Bush was soon replaced by actress Claire Danes. She was cast as Kate Brewster in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, but was replaced by Claire Danes, as the director thought she was too young. In 2003, she won the role of Brooke Davis in the television series One Tree Hill. The show is one of The CW network's biggest hits and is exported all around the world. In between working on One Tree Hill, Bush has been cast in several films, such as Supercross, Stay Alive, John Tucker Must Die, and a remake of The Hitcher. Bush received a "Rising Star" award at Vail Film Festival for her work in The Hitcher. She won 3 Teen Choice Awards for her work in John Tucker Must Die and The Hitcher. She landed small roles on the notable television shows "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" (ABC, 1996-2003) and "Nip/Tuck" (FX, 2003 - ), as well as a role in the forgettable film "Learning Curves" (2003). While continuing her popular "One Tree" role, Bush returned to the big screen in 2005, playing love interest to Steve Howey in the motorcycle action film "Supercross." In 2006, Bush continued to land big screen roles, taking a stab at the horror genre with "Stay Alive" and "John Tucker Must Die." On April 20, 2007, it was confirmed that Bush will star in Francois Velle's "The Narrows" with Kevin Zegers, Eddie Cahill and Vincent D'Onofrio. It is reported that she will play the beautiful, intelligent and self-assured 'Kathy Popovich'. Filming began in New York on April 24, 2007 and is due for a 2008 release date. In late April 2007, Bush ranked #90 in the UK's popular men's magazine FHM, in their countdown of 100 Sexiest Women of 2007. Subsequently, she ranked #89 in the US edition of the same magazine. In May 2007, Bush ranked extremely high at #24 in the Maxim Hot 100 List of 2007. She has also appeared on the cover of the November 2006 edition of Maxim with One Tree Hill co-stars, Hilarie Burton and Danneel Harris. In previous years, Bush has ranked #3 on Femme Fatales: The 50 Sexiest Women of 2004 and named #15 on Much Music's 20 Hottest Women of 2004. On April 16, 2005, Bush married actor Chad Michael Murray, her One Tree Hill co-star. They dated for almost two years before they were married in Santa Monica. But then they announced their separation on September 26, 2005 after five months of marriage when Bush filed court papers to have their marriage annulled after Murray allegedly had sexual relations with Paris Hilton. In December of 2006, Bush and Murray's divorce was made final. Bush was in a relationship with Stay Alive co-star Jon Foster after her divorce until August 2007. Later, rumors surfaced that Bush and Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Tony Romo were dating. They were reportedly seen together in Texas. In December 2007, it was reported by Rush & Molloy in the New York Daily News that Bush has "now hooked up with co-star James Lafferty"; the report also mentioned that a rep for the actress has denied there is any romance. In February 2008, Bush made several appearances in Texas in support of the Barack Obama campaign in the Texas Presidential primary election. She was joined in Dallas, Fort Worth, and Waco by fellow actor Adam Rodriguez. Touring mostly college campuses, they urged young voters to get involved politically. |
