Famous Quote

"I'm English, definitely. I don't feel like I'm American in any way. I think American men are more conscious of putting up a good impression. There's more of an earthiness to Englishmen. But Americans aren't afraid to come up and say, `Hi, I'd like to go out with you.' Englishmen are far more sheepish about it."

Biography Actress Name Biography

Sienna Rose Miller (born December 28, 1981) is a BAFTA and London Film Critics Circle Award nominated US-born English actress and model. Fairly or not, British actress Sienna Miller became tabloid fodder at the age of just 22 after a supporting role in the forgettable feature film “Alfie” (2004) starring Jude Law, landed her the leading man’s heart off-screen. Miller was instantly catapulted into the blistering limelight for all the wrongs reasons – none of which had anything to do with her film roles.

The press was quick to dissect the newcomer’s romance with her older movie star boyfriend, as well as her bohemian chic style, while continually ignoring her acting talent. A shift occurred when Law was caught cheating with his nanny, pigeonholing Miller into a role she could have never foreseen – that of victim. With public sympathy firmly on her side, Miller went on to deliver competent performances in such films as “Layer Cake” (2005) and “Factory Girl” (2006) – proving she was more than a fashion plate and wronged woman.

Miller was born in New York City on 28 December 1981 and moved with her family as a child to London, England. She went on to attend Heathfield St Mary's School, a boarding school in Ascot, Berkshire and later studied for a year at the Lee Strasberg Institute in New York City with luminaries such as Will Lee and Konima Summer with whom she has remained close friends over the years.

Her father Edward Miller is an American banker turned Chinese art dealer. Her mother, Josephine "Jo" Miller, who is South African, ran Lee Strasberg's acting academy in London and was once David Bowie's secretary. Her parents parted when she was six years old, and her father subsequently married the English interior designer Kelly Hoppen; they divorced after 15 years, and Ed Miller recently remarried for the fourth time. Miller has a sister, Savannah, who is a fashion designer; two half-brothers, Charles and Stephen, and a former stepsister, Natasha Corrett (the daughter of Hoppen). Her father, Ed Miller, was a successful American banker and her bohemian South African mother, Jo, ran the Lee Strasberg Drama School in London. Miller lived in an artistic and lively household in London with her mother and older sister Savannah after her parents’ divorce when she was six. By the age of eight, she was shipped off to Heathfield, an upper crust all girls boarding school.

An outgoing and mischievous child, she always yearned to be larger than life on the silver screen. She also combated the loneliness of being away from home by making lots of friends and playing schoolgirl pranks. Not bothered by modesty or the damp English air, Miller was known on occasion to streak around the lacrosse field – a proclivity for going au natural that would never leave her. After she graduated from Heathfield, Miller took her dramatic aspirations to the next level, studying acting in New York, where she also starred in several theatrical productions.

Prior to her professional acting career, Miller worked as a photographic model. She signed with Tandy Anderson, and modeled for Coca-Cola, Italian Vogue, Prada and the 2003 Pirelli Calendar. In 2004-5 she was closely associated with the style of fashion that became known as boho chic.

Miller signed a two-year contract with Pepe Jeans London; the jeans ad campaign first appeared in magazines March 2006. Miller posed for Vanity Fair magazine's 2006 "Hollywood Issue" topless and smoking a cigarette. She appeared on the December 2004 and the February 2006 cover of British Vogue, and appeared on the September 2007 cover of U.S. Vogue.

In her early career, Miller performed in several amateur New York City plays including The Striker, Independence, and Oscar-winning director Anthony Minghella's Cigarettes & Chocolate. Miller had a recurring role in Simon West's television action drama series Keen Eddie (2003-4). In 2002, Miller jumped the pond again, returning to England to make her television acting debut on the short lived “Keen Eddie” (Fox 2002-03) playing, Fiona, a woman living with an NYPD cop-turned private-detective on the hunt for a drug dealer in London. “Keen Eddie” may have been short lived, but Miller was on the cusp of a groundbreaking year. In 2004, she co-starred with the future James Bond, Daniel Craig, in the sexy British gangster feature, “Layer Cake,” portraying the unnamed drug dealers (Craig) love interest.

In 2005, Miller made her professional stage debut as Celia in a West End production of Shakespeare's As You Like It alongside Helen McCrory and Dominic West. She understudied the lead role of Rosalind, which she played for one performance, when McCrory fell ill.

In 2001, she made her film debut with South Kensington, with Rupert Everett and Elle Macpherson. Her next projects were High Speed and The Ride (aka Joy-Rider) in 2002. Miller had supporting roles in the remake of the 1966 movie Alfie starring Jude Law in 2004. In the same year, she made Layer Cake with Daniel Craig. But before “Layer Cake” was even released, Miller’s follow up film “Alfie” (2004) a remake of the 1966 film about a womanizer who is forced to face his bad karma as his life slowly unravels was released. Critics panned the film, but the real story was hardly the film; it was the on-set romance between Miller and Law, the 31-year-old star of the film. Law was internationally famous and just coming out of a divorce from actress Sadie Frost, the mother of his three children. Despite the bad timing, Law was instantly smitten with Miller and the two wasted no time in becoming an item, much to the delight of the international press.

In 2005, Miller played the female lead opposite Heath Ledger in the period drama, Casanova, followed by what is known as her breakthrough role portraying 1960s socialite and Andy Warhol's muse Edie Sedgwick in the film Factory Girl, which opened December 29, 2006. Although the film has been deemed controversial, her performance has received acclaim. From the beginning, the media seemed suspicious of the young upstart landing the handsome star. The couples every move was documented, especially by the British press, where the couple was the most famous. Miller and Law appeared to be weathering the storm just fine; even becoming engaged on Christmas day, 2004. In 2005, she landed a starring role opposite Aussie actor, Heath Ledger, in “Casanova” portraying Francesca; an independent woman who wins Casanova’s (Ledger) heart despite rebuffing his advances. The following year, Miller got her chance to finally quiet the rumblings of her critics with her lead role in the Edie Sedgwick biopic “Factory Girl.” The films reviews were mixed, but Miller surprised many critics, who praised the young beauty for her impressive portrayal of Sedgwick. Though she delivered a strong performance, Miller inadvertently distracted from the buzz of “Factory Girl” by creating a much louder buzz on another topic.

To the casual observer it looked like Miller was living a dream of landing a Hollywood hunk who loved her, until August of 2005, when Law admitted to cheating on Miller with his children’s nanny. Like fellow British beauty Liz Hurley, who had years earlier faced her partner Hugh Grant’s public philandering, the brokenhearted starlet found herself embroiled in the “Nannygate” scandal seemingly overnight. Not surprisingly, Miller called off the engagement. The scrutiny on Miller and Law only intensified, and for a moment Miller had the public’s sympathy. What followed was a reconciliation with Law, followed by another break-up, followed by another reconciliation… The couple finally called it quits for good in November of 2006.

In 2007, Miller starred opposite Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert De Niro in Matthew Vaughn's fantasy epic Stardust. That same year, she played an American starlet to Steve Buscemi's reporter in the movie Interview, which was also directed by Steve Buscemi and portrayed an undead bride opposite James Franco in the horror comedy Camille which has yet receive a wide release. Despite the firestorm of bad press, Miller continued to be an in-demand actress. In 2007, she had a small role in the fantasy feature “Stardust” opposite Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer. Next she starred as a vacuous soap opera actress being interviewed by a caustic journalist (Steve Buscemi) in the independent feature “Interview” (2007) also written and directed by Buscemi. Tabloid journalists eagerly awaited reports of temper tantrums and diva meltdowns from the set of Miller’s next project – the Dylan Thomas biopic “The Edge of Love.” Unfortunately for the tabloids, Miller and her co-star Keira Knightley became fast friends. With no smack downs to report between the two sexy ingénues, gossip bloggers moved onto plan B and began buzzing about the explicitness of their Sapphic sex scenes.

In 2008, Miller has a lead role in the film version of writer Michael Chabon's novel, The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, also starring Peter Sarsgaard and filmed The Edge of Love, with friend Keira Knightley, a biopic of Dylan Thomas in which she plays his wife Caitlin and romantic interest of Knightley's character. Hippie Hippie Shake a new Working Title production directed by Beeban Kidron also stars Cillian Murphy and is set in 1960s America. Importance, a contemporary re-working of Oscar Wilde's A Woman of No Importance and a live-action film adaption of the comic book and cartoon G.I. Joe are both films Miller has signed on to film in 2008.

Miller designed limited edition T-shirts or vests for the 'Little Tee Campaign' for Breast Cancer Care which donates money for breast cancer research. In 2006, it was announced that Miller would design a fashion capsule for Pepe Jeans; the project was later expanded to become a complete fashion label. Called Twenty8Twelve, it gets its name from Sienna Miller's date of birth and is financially backed by Pepe Jeans. Miller designed the label's first range with her sister Savannah. The designing duo presented pieces from the range in May 2007. The 80-piece line premiered on July 26, 2007 in New York City. It will debut at Neiman Marcus September 8, 2007, and at Bergdorf Goodman soon.

Miller's relationship with Jude Law was frequently featured in the entertainment press. On Christmas Day of 2004, they became engaged. However, July 18, 2005, Law issued a public apology to Miller for having an affair with Daisy Wright, the nanny of his children by his former wife (actress Sadie Frost). At the same time, Miller was rumored to be having an affair with Law's friend, Daniel Craig. Despite attempts to salvage their relationship, Miller and Law separated, then reunited briefly in 2006, before separating again. Miller has been dating Rhys Ifans since 2007. Although there have been reports of Miller and Ifans being engaged, her representatives have confirmed that this is not true.

She has also supported Breast Cancer Haven's Lend a Hand, Raise a Grand Appeal which asks people to raise £1,000 in one year for Breast Cancer Haven, which runs centers offering a free program for support, information and complementary therapies to anyone affected by the disease. She encouraged others to take part, saying "The Lend a Hand, Raise a Grand appeal is your chance to support a fantastic charity. It is a chance for you to make a difference -- a little bit of effort goes a long way with this unique initiative. We are all affected by breast cancer so please, please support it." Miller is also an ambassador for the Starlight Children's Foundation.

While on location in Pennsylvania, working on The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, Miller made derogatory comments about the city, referring to Pittsburgh as "Shitsburgh", in an interview for Rolling Stone magazine, on newsstands October 6, 2006. She later apologized, noting that her father grew up in Western Pennsylvania only 85 miles from the city. Miller was nominated for an Empire Award in 2005 for her role in Alfie, and a Teen Choice Award in 2003, for Choice TV Breakout Star - Female for her performance in Keen Eddie.

In October 2007, Miller was awarded an EMA Futures Award for helping to raise public awareness about the problem of global warming and in November 2007 she was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Female - Lead performance for her appearance in Interview. She was nominated for The Rising Star Award, BAFTA at the 2008 British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
