Famous Quote

"I think that you love who you love, and there are people who you love that people aren't going to understand why, and that sort of doesn't really matter. To me, a great love story is a great love story, and it doesn't matter what gender is involved."

Biography Piper Perabo Biography

Piper Lisa Perabo (born October 31, 1976) is an American movie actress. This attractive ingénue first caught moviegoers' attention as the corn-fed, serious-minded Midwestern girlfriend of Danny Hoch's hip-hop gangsta wannabe in "Whiteboys" (1999). A native of New Jersey, Piper Perabo was not on screen often in that film but she managed to convey her character's determination and caring in a few short scenes. She originally trained at the prestigious LaMaMa Theatre in NYC before earning her BFA in theater at Ohio University.

Although she had acted in a couple of short films, Perabo was a virtual unknown when she landed the part in "Whiteboys,” but she quickly landed roles in two high profile summer 2000 releases. In the live-action/animation "The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle", she was cast as a rookie FBI agent who teams with the title heroes to thwart the machinations of Fearless Leader and the No-Goodniks Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale. Perabo followed with her first leading role as an aspiring singer-songwriter who moonlights as a bartender in the drama "Coyote Ugly.”

In 2000, Perabo was cast in The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle as lead character FBI agent Karen Sympathy. Her following role in Coyote Ugly brought her into the public eye. She played the role of Violet Sanford, a.k.a. "Jersey," a young woman who moves to New York to pursue her dream of becoming a songwriter. She had to take lessons in voice, guitar, piano and bartending to prepare for the role. Despite poor reviews, the film was a modest box-office success and she won an MTV Movie Award for Best Music Moment for "One Way or Another."

In 2001, Perabo starred in an independent Canadian movie called Lost and Delirious, playing a boarding school student who falls in love with a female classmate. she landed a key role in Lea Pool's "Lost and Delirious" (2001), about relationships among the residents of a private girls' school, and appeared in "Slap Her...She's French!" (2002) as Genevieve LePlouff, a French foreign-exchange student who comes to a small Texas high school, befriends a classmate, and practically takes over her life. The actress' next major film appearance was in the 2003 remake of the family comedy "Cheaper By the Dozen," playing Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt's oldest daughter Nora, who's bedeviled by an obnoxious and vain boyfriend (Ashton Kutcher). The comedy was a runaway hit, taking in close to $140 million in domestic receipts.

The next year she starred as a French exchange student in Slap Her... She's French, which was shelved in North America for two years, then released under the new title She Gets What She Wants. The film was released under its original title in Europe. In 2003, she had a role as the eldest Baker child, Nora, in Cheaper by the Dozen (2003) which she reprised in its 2005 sequel. After starring in the straight-to-video romantic comedy “Perfect Opposites” (2004), Perabo was the tomboy in a group of cave explorers that leads a pair of biologists into an elaborate cave system beneath the newly discovered ruins of a 13th century Romanian abbey in the sci-fi thriller, "The Cave" (2005). But instead of discovering an new ecosystem, as the biologists had hoped, the group finds a new species of unique and unwelcoming beings formed by the isolated environment.

A clichéd storyline, unknown cast and lack of aggressive advertising ensured a $6 million opening weekend. Perabo next rejoined the original cast for the sequel “Cheaper By the Dozen 2” (2005), wherein Tom and Kate Baker (Martin and Hunt) try to bring their family together for a memorable summer vacation. Meanwhile, she was cast for a supporting role in “Because I Said So” (lensed 2005), a romantic comedy about a well-intentioned but overzealous mother who goes on a mission to find Mr. Right for her oldest and still unmarried daughter.

Other recent films include The i Inside (2003), Perfect Opposites (2004), George and the Dragon (2004), The Cave (2005), Edison (2005), and The Prestige (2006). She has also appeared as a nutritionist on the Fox TV show House.

Perabo was born in Dallas, Texas and grew up in Toms River, New Jersey, the daughter of Mary Charlotte (née Ulland), a physical therapist, and George William Perabo, a poetry professor at Ocean County College. She is of Portuguese and Norwegian descent. Her parents chose to name her after actress Piper Laurie. Her brothers, Noah and Adam, are also actors. In high school, Perabo appeared in the annual musicals.

Her senior year, she was Katie in Meet Me In St. Louis; junior year, Cousin Fan in Mame; sophomore year, Lady Brighton in Me and My Girl; and freshman year, a dancer in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. She was also president of the National Honor Society and the editor of the school literary magazine, Polaris. In 2007, she visited her high school to see How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.

She graduated from high school at Toms River High School North and then from Ohio University's Honors Tutorial College in 1998 with a BFA in theater. After graduating, Piper studied acting at the LaMama Theater in New York and had small roles in two plays. She was a waitress in New York City at an upscale restaurant prior to being discovered. Perabo enjoys classical music, literature and fishing. Piper is close friends with actress Lena Headey, her co-star in The Cave and Imagine Me & You.
