Famous Quote

"It’s not just that crazy fan adulation. It’s an actual common ground, it’s respectful. It’s a two way street. They have an intelligence an understanding of the show that goes beyond what just being a fan is. Believe me when I tell you it's not easy. It's not easy auditioning day after day after day, but when something falls into place like that it's just incredible. "

Biography Morena Baccarin Biography

Morena Baccarin (born June 2, 1979) is a Brazilian actress of Italian origins, best known for her role as Inara Serra in the short-lived sci-fi television series Firefly and the follow-up movie Serenity. Morena was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her mother is Brazilian stage and TV actress Vera Setta. Possesed of an exotic beauty, captivating eyes and a regal yet sensual bearing, Morena Baccarin's classical training served her well in her breakout role as the high-class call girl Inara in Joss Whedon cult favorite but short-lived sci-fi TV series “Firefly” (Fox, 2002) and its likely movie spin-off “Serenity" (2005).

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and raised in New York City's Greenwich Village, Baccarin was born with acting in her blood: her mother is the well-known Brazilian stage and TV actress Vera Setta. After attending the Fiorello LaGuardia School of Performing Arts, Baccarin was accepted to the prestigious Juilliard School, where she became one of the subjects of the PBS American Masters series on the school. When she was 10, Baccarin moved with her family to Greenwich Village, New York, in the United States. She later attended the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts (the high school featured in the movie Fame) before she entered the theater program at Juilliard. Wes Bentley and Glenn Howerton were both classmates there.

While at Julliard she appeared in a variety of thetare productions, including "Love's Labours Lost," "The Importance of Being Earnest" and was Natalie Portman's understudy in the New York Shakespeare Festival production of "The Seagull" with Meryl Streep and Kevin Kline. The actor made feature debut in director Michael Rymer’s largely improvisational film “Perfume” (2001) opposite Sonia Braga, followed by turn as a struggling actress in the ensemble dramedy “Way Off-Broadway” (2001).

Baccarin landed her first movie role in the improvised fashion world comedy Perfume (2001). This was followed by a lead role in the film festival hit Way Off Broadway (2001). After landing a small role in the admired indie "Roger Dodger" (2002) Baccarin relocated to Los Angeles and quickly caught the attention of Whedon when he was casting for "Firefly," his well-crafterd space opera that owed more to classic Westerns than typical sci-fi fare. Mishandled by Fox, the show failed to find a wide enough audience to remain on the air but had earned critical acclaim and a rabidly devoted cadre of fans. When DVD sales proved brisk, the series was revived for the Universal feature film "Serenity" (2005), in which Baccarin reprised her role as Inara, demonstrating a gift for action and expanding her character's will they-won't they relationship with her ship's captain Mal (Nathan Fillion).

Shortly before moving to Los Angeles, Baccarin appeared with Natalie Portman and understudied for her role in the acclaimed Central Park production of The Seagull. Firefly was Baccarin's first television show, and she reprised her role in the 2005 film Serenity. In February 2005, Baccarin provided the voice for Black Canary in multiple episodes of the animated series Justice League Unlimited. She also guest starred in two episodes of the television series The O.C. in 2006. Morena also acted in an unaired pilot episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, playing Carmen, a male-to-female transsexual. The episode was never aired on television, as it was used simply to pitch the show to FX executives. The scene is available on the Seasons 1 & 2 DVD release of the show. Interestingly, Glenn Howerton of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia fame, would later appear in a minor role in the Joss Whedon film, Serenity, also starring Baccarin.

In April 2006, it was announced that Morena would be playing the adult version of Adria, a recurring villain in the tenth season of Stargate SG-1. She first appeared in season 10 episode "Counterstrike" as adult Adria (the younger versions of Adria were previously played by other actresses). She appeared on the November 6, 2006, broadcast of How I Met Your Mother; Barney, whom she mistakenly calls "Swarley" (portrayed by Neil Patrick Harris), commented that her character had "crazy eyes."

On December 22, 2006, she appeared in a supporting role as Lisa Cruz on Justice, the FOX network television show. On February 16, 2007, she appeared in an episode of Las Vegas as Sara Samari. On April 6, 2008, Baccarin appeared in an episode of Dirt as a Hollywood actress. Morena reprises her role as Adria in the movie Stargate: The Ark of Truth. When asked in an interview "if she's up for the role of Wonder Woman, " Baccarin replied: "I’m not going to say no to a superhero but it’s not up to me."
