Famous Quote

"Some people have active imaginations, but they don't know me and they're wrong if they think they do. Celebrity is hawking make up, cars, everything; it's shifted. For the most part, I do not go out all that often, so it varies. And I will never, ever respond to anybody man, woman, vegetable, or mineral who tells me to keep my mouth shut."

Biography Marie Serneholt Biography

Marie Eleonor Serneholt (born July 11, 1983) was a member of the Swedish pop band A*Teens. Marie was born in Stockholm, Sweden, and was raised in an upper middle-class family. Marie Eleonor Serneholt is the oldest member of the Swedish pop band A*Teens. Marie was born in Stockholm, Sweden on July 11, 1983. She nearly died twice before becoming a pop star, once from almost drowning and another from an illness. When the band took a much needed break in 2004, she began several ventures including advertisements for Maybelline in Sweden and several magazine covers in Sweden. She was interviewed in 2005 by MTV Europe speaking about becoming a solo artist. In the background of that interview, a song that she had recorded could be heard. Serneholt is currently continuing work on her forthcoming solo project. Her debut single is "That's they way my Heart goes". Her debut album will be out in March 2006.

Stockholm born singer and model Marie Serneholt broke into the music industry as a member of the A-Teens, a teen pop group that sold nearly ten million albums worldwide. Initially, the group updated ABBA hits for a younger generation, and they went on to release a total of four albums. Ten of their singles reached the Top Ten of Sweden's pop chart. Upon the A-Teens' split, Serneholt went into modeling and stepped away from music, but she began recording solo material during 2005 with Jצrgen Elofsson, whose songwriting credits had included Britney Spears' "(You Drive Me) Crazy" and Kelly Clarkson's "A Moment Like This," as well as hits for Steps, Westlife, Gareth Gates, and Will Young. Enjoy the Ride, Serneholt's first solo album, was released in March 2006 through Elofsson's Sony BMG-distributed boutique label; by the end of the year, three of its songs had been released as singles, with only "That's the Way My Heart Goes" reaching Sweden's Top Ten.

In 1998, Serneholt signed a record deal with Stockholm Records (part of Universal Music) along with her then bandmates Sara, Dhani and Amit. Together they performed as the A*Teens. In 1999, they released their first single, a cover of ABBA's "Mamma Mia". The single topped the charts in Sweden for 8 consecutive weeks, and the success was similar around the world.

By 2000, the A*Teens' first album, "The ABBA Generation" had sold 4 million copies, and they became one of the most internationally successful Swedish pop bands. After 6 years together and more than 5 million albums sold, the A*Teens disbanded after a "Greatest Hits" album and a final tour in Sweden.

With the A*Teens' going their separate ways, it was rumored that Serneholt would be the first to pursue a solo career. This proved to be unfounded when fellow A*Teen Dhani Lennevald released his debut single in September 2004.

Serneholt wanted to live what she couldn't experience while she was in the band touring around the world, so she chose to live a normal life with her friends and family. While she was living her normal life, she was working as a model on several magazines and fashion shows, as well as a host of several shows in her native Sweden.

In 2005 she was picked as the face of the Maybelline cosmetics line in the Scandinavia. She also gave her voice for the Swedish versions of the movies Robots and Herbie: Fully Loaded. These endeavors allowed Marie to maintain a presence in Swedish media despite the hiatus of her music career.

In 2005, Serneholt was ready to make music again, so she called Jörgen Elofsson, who had previously written for Britney Spears and Céline Dion. Elofsson was busy with other artists at the time, but Serneholt knew he was the right person to produce her album. When she contacted Elofsson again later that year, he had just started collaborating with two relatively young and unknown producers, Richard Brandén and Pär Westerlund.

Elofsson felt that he wanted to work with a Swedish artist that wanted to reach out into the world, an artist he could really believe in and whose career he could be a part of from the start. He created the label Planet Six (a part of SonyBMG), and Marie signed her first record deal as a solo artist.

At first Serneholt was unsure in which direction she wanted to take her music. Elofsson was relieved when Serneholt said that she wanted to make a pop album. They began work on the album during the year, with Elofsson listed as co-writer of every track on the album. Besides writing with his co-producers, he has also co-written with Nicky Chinn and Swedish colleague Andreas Carlsson, among others. Serneholt and Jörgen could work undisturbed and at their own pace, with no involvement of any record companies, media or outside opinions, seeing that they were working under his label.

On February 2006, Serneholt's first single saw the light, "That's The Way My Heart Goes", was premiered on Swedish radio with decent reviews and good response from the public, the single debuted at #2 on the Swedish Charts and reached #1 on the Official Swedish Digital Downloads Chart, ensuring Gold Status on physical sales alone on May 19, 2006.

The album Enjoy the Ride was released on March 29, 2006, debuting at #9 in her home country but dropping off the charts quickly, while the single's success was growing around the world with releases throughout Europe along with the album and with plans to release it in South and North America in 2007. In May 2006, Serneholt started a promotional tour around Germany coinciding with the German release of her album. She also embarked on a Radio Station's Concert Tour around Sweden and Finland.

In June, Serneholt released her second single, "I Need A House", debuting at #2 on the Swedish Digital Downloads Chart, but failing on the physical sales, reaching a disappointing #40 in Sweden. The single was released in Europe in September 2006. In an interview in Sweden, Serneholt stated that her debut album Enjoy the Ride will be released all over the world including the United States, where the A*Teens haven't released anything since their 2002 album Pop 'Til You Drop. Serneholt is also planning on a world promotional tour starting in the end of 2006.

On August 19th, 2006, Serneholt performed at Voice '06 in Kungsträdgården, Stockholm, Sweden. Serneholt is promoting her album throughout Europe. "I Need A House" was picked as part of the soundtrack of the Portuguese soap opera "Morangos Com Acucar, and on August 8, 2006, she filmed a special appearance on it as part of the Portuguese promotion of the album. Serneholt published on her official blog on September 22 that she had finished the video for "Oxygen", stating that it will be released in mid-October and that it was going to be different from any other video she has done.

"Oxygen" is Marie Serneholt's third single off her debut album. Many critics and fans were hoping that Marie would release a more upbeat song rather than a ballad, due to the fact that her two previous singles did poorly outside of Sweden. There have been unconfirmed rumors that Marie has recorded bonus tracks for a United States release of her album.

In March 2007 Marie stated in her MarieSerneholt.com diary section that she is working on a new album. She also added that those who disliked her first solo attempt might like the upcoming second album. It's rumored that the album will be titled "Love Affair". The album is currently scheduled to be released in May 2008.
