Famous Quote

"I used to trip over my legs and get detention for my too-short shorts because none fit. I still trip, but now I like to show them off. High heels can be sexy. But before you leave the house, make sure you can walk in them. I've made that mistake. I'm learning more and more about fashion as I go. I never really had the disposable income before. I shopped at garage sales in high school. I love the vintage stuff."

Biography Maggie Grace Biography

Margaret Grace Denig (born September 21, 1983), better known as Maggie Grace, is an American actress. She is best known for her work as Shannon Rutherford on the television series Lost. With bright blond hair, glowing skin and bikini-perfect proportions, Maggie Grace is just the girl many men would like to get lost on a desert island with, so it came as no surprise that she was cast into stardom as the spoiled, pouty castaway Shannon Rutherford on ABC’s hit drama “Lost” (2004- ) after just two years of acting professionally.

Grace, eldest of three children, was born in Worthington, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus, the daughter of Linn and Rick Denig. She took to acting at an early age, performing in several local theatre productions, among them Jewish Community Center's Gallery Players' 2000 production of The Crucible. The director of that play, John S. Kuhn, said of Grace "Even at that young age she brought a lot to her work." Grace has also made appearances on a variety of hit shows. In 2003 alone, she had recurring appearances on Fox’s “Oliver Beene” and guest spots on ABC’s “Miracles,” CBS’ “CSI Miami,” on Rob Lowe’s short-lived vehicle, “The Lyon’s Den.”

At 16, Grace left Ohio with her mother, Valinn, for Los Angeles. Things were tough for a while and the young actress frequently found herself struggling to pay her rent. In 2001 she landed the eponymous role in the Sony Pictures web-serial Rachel's Room, which took the form of a teenager's video journal. In all, she appeared in 56 short videos dialoguing teen angst and her conflict with her mother and school teachers.

Over the following years Maggie, under her stage name Maggie Grace, had guest appearances on several television shows, including CSI: Miami, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Oliver Beene, and portrayed Martha Moxley in the television movie Murder In Greenwich. In 2003, she played the Goth-influenced, estranged daughter of Tom Selleck and Wendy Crewson in the drama 12 Mile Road.

It was in 2004 that Grace landed her big break when she won the role of the affluent, lazy and self-centered Shannon Rutherford on J. J. Abrams' television pilot Lost. When Lost was picked up for a full season by ABC Grace relocated to Oahu, Hawaii where the show is filmed. In 2004 Grace also appeared on episodes of the network dramas “Law and Order: Special Victim’s Unit,” “Like Family" and “Cold Case” before joining the ensemble of the breakout hit drama “Lost” teaming with Ian Sommerhalder as one of a pair of step-siblings who shared a troubling personal history even before becoming stranded on the mysterious island. On the feature film side, she also made a foray into horror with a leading role in the murky 2005 remake of the John Carpenter classic "The Fog." As her stock in Hollywood rose, audiences were surprised when her character was abruptly killed off shortly into "Lost's" second season.

During the hiatus between the first and second seasons of Lost, Grace starred in the remake of the John Carpenter horror film, The Fog, alongside Tom Welling and Selma Blair. The film was nearly universally-panned upon its release that fall. She returned to Oahu for Lost's second season, where she filmed the first six episodes, before moving back to Los Angeles.

Maggie was widely rumored to have won the role of Shadowcat in X-Men: The Last Stand, but the role eventually went to Ellen Page. Maggie later revealed that she had never been contacted about the role and was surprised to read she was up for the part in question. After a break in 2006, Grace returned to both small and big screens in 2007. She returned to Oahu and Lost to film a guest spot in a season three episode, and she co-starred in two movies: Suburban Girl, alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alec Baldwin, and The Jane Austen Book Club.
