"I listen to a lot of slow music now and growing up. When I got into Led Zeppelin, I realized the power of electric guitars and live drums. I really meshed them all together. We come from very different places. We have friends in common. She does her own thing.
Avril Lavigne like a punk skater girl. But I have more experiences in life, just like anyone who's an 18 year old and a 26 year
old." |

Lucy Woodward (b. October 27, 1977) is a singer/songwriter commonly known for the Top 40 hit "Dumb Girls", released in February 2003. After the single's release, Woodward toured around the world in support of her debut album 'While You Can' (2003). Soon after, Atlantic Records merged and dropped many mid-level artists from their label, including Woodward.
Lucy was born in London, but was raised in Amsterdam and New York City. She has a very musical background: her British father is a composer and conductor and her New Yorker mother is a musicologist and an opera singer. Lucy attended a public high school in the Bronx. She started off singing in jazz cafes and singing for tips or dinner. "You sing with a piano player and a tip jar on top of the piano," she said in an interview on NZGirl.
Having sung her way to Asia, Europe, Africa and the “Tonight Show,” Lucy Woodward’s sound continues to evolve on her new album, Lucy Woodward Is...Hot and Bothered. Drawing from early inspirations as varied as Etta James and Ray Charles to Björk and the soundtrack to The Jungle Book, Lucy’s breathy title track takes the melody of a Yiddish lullaby Lucy’s grandmother sang to her as a baby. With a composer/conductor father and an opera-singing musicologist mother, it’s no mystery where Lucy got her talent.
Raised on a healthy diet of Middle-Eastern music and La Bohème, when Lucy was in high school, her family moved to the Bronx. Lucy found other kids who “wanted to sing everywhere. You couldn’t stop us.” The first songs she recorded were in the House music genre, because “everyone’s dad or brother had a studio in his basement.” She found singing that kind of music to be “liberating and improvisationally freeing,” and she began to write her own songs. Now an award-winning songwriter, Lucy has written and recorded songs for several film soundtracks including Disney’s Ice Princess, What A Girl Wants, First Daughter and Accepted.
She can also be heard on the new album by “American Idol” judge and Pop producer Randy Jackson. Lucy Woodward…is Hot and Bothered was co-produced by Lucy and Grammy Award-winner Itaal Shur (Santana, Cyndi Lauper, and Maxwell) and Tim Kvasnosky (of the Electronica duo Home and Garden) and is now available on iTunes. She is currently performing “The Hot and Bothered Sessions" around New York City. She is currently performing “The Hot and Bothered Sessions" around New York City. She will be releasing Hot and Bothered through Barnes & Noble this coming June.
In 2005, Woodward proved there is life after labels when she won a BMI Pop Award for writing the hit single "(There's Gotta Be) More to Life" featured on Stacie Orrico's self titled album. She also recently appeared on the major motion picture soundtracks 'What a Girl Wants', 'Ice Princess' and collaborated with David Schommer on the soundtrack for 'Accepted'.
Lucy's most recent accomplishment is the release of her first independent album: "Lucy Woodward... is Hot and Bothered" which can be heard on iTunes. The single 'Use What I Got' has been featured on the 2007 Lifetime Television movie 'Write and Wrong' starring Kirstie Alley.
