Izabella Anna Mikolajczak (born January 21, 1981), better known as Izabella Miko, is a Polish actress and model. A blonde beauty who began her career as a ballerina, Izabella Miko moved between Poland and America before establishing herself in the Hollywood scene with roles in such popular features as Coyote Ugly (2000) and The Forsaken (2001).
Miko was born in Lodz, Poland to Grażyna Dyląg and Aleksander Mikołajczak, both of whom are actors. She grew up in Warsaw, where she studied to be a ballerina. An American choreographer invited her to study in New York City on a scholarship, and she traveled there with her mother on her 15th birthday. Miko studied ballet, voice, and piano at Poland's Chopin Music School before a choreographer recruited her at the age of 14 to move abroad and join the School of American Ballet.
Relocating to New York, Miko studied at the New York City Ballet and the Lee Strasberg Institute before a back injury brought her dancing career to a halt. Moving back to Poland and appearing in numerous films in the following few years, Miko moved back to the United States in the mid-'90s and, with her acting experiences intact, began to make a bid for the big time on the silver screens of Hollywood. Izabella made her big-screen debut with Tyra Banks in Coyote Ugly, a raucous Jerry Bruckheimer film about a female-run bar in New York City. She has since appeared in a number of films including The Forsaken, Minimal Knowledge and Bye Bye Blackbird (2005).
Miko's film roles include Coyote Ugly (2000), The Forsaken (2001), Park (2006), The House of Usher (2006) and Save the Last Dance 2 (2006). In addition, she appeared in 3 episodes of HBO's Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning Deadwood, and as a dancer in The Killers' video for Mr Brightside. Izabella’s budding career was busier than ever in 2006, as she merged her passion for dance with acting in Save the Last Dance 2, a sequel to the popular hip-hop drama starring Julia Stiles. She was also cast for parts in Flakes with Zooey Deschanel, Crashing, Dark Streets, and The Spiderwick Chronicles. Miko was ranked #48 on Maxim's Hot 100 Women of 2001 list.
