Ines Sastre (born November 21, 1973, Valladolid) is a Spanish model and actress. Ines Sastre's film career all started when a 12-year-old Ines went to audition for a fast-food commercial with a friend of hers. Sastre's career started at the age of 12, when she was selected for a fast-food commercial with McDonalds. Her first movie appearance occurred in 1987 in El dorado by Carlos Saura. In 1989, she was awarded the look of the year by the Elite Model Agency group. At that point in her life she was offered to continue in the modelling business but she chose to continue her studies instead. She studied at The Sorbonne in Paris, and in addition to Spanish, speaks French, English and Italian fluently. In 1996, Sastre succeeded Isabella Rossellini as Lancôme's spokesmodel for its perfume, Trésor. In 1997, before playing the role of Francesca Babini in Italian director Pupi Avati's movie Il testimone dello sposo, she became the Beauté Naturelle for having won the Prix de la mode in Paris' Fashion Awards. The following years saw her work with UNESCO and take part in a multitude of fashion design shows, and also taking part in numerous ads. In 2000, Sastre achieved popularity in Italy as a presenter with Fabio Fazio at the Italian Music Festival di Sanremo. Sastre is a UNICEF ambassador. Ines Sastre studied at The Sorbonne in Paris, and in addition to Spanish, speaks French, English and Italian fluently. Ines Sastre was cast in the commercial, which led to her film debut. It was hard not to notice the hazel-eyed brunette, and director Carlos Saura sure took notice. He knew Ines Sastre'd be perfect for the role of Elvira in the 1987 film, El Dorado. Ines Sastre won Elite's "Look of the Year" contest in 1987. Showing that beauty does not go further than brawn, Ines chose to continue with academics and put her modeling career aside. Her refusal to sign the modeling contract with Elite and instead receive her university degree from La Sorbonne is a condemnable act; Ines Sastre , however, did not have much to worry about, as she had a string of opportunities lined up for her after graduation. In the meantime, Ines Sastre beauty did appear in several movies. She landed the role of Giovanna in 1988's Johanna D'Arc of Mongolia and played Beatrice in 1990's Fuga dal Paradiso (Escape from Paradise). Once Ines Sastre received her university diploma, she went back to work full-time as an actress and model. In the world of acting, Ines Sastre appeared in such films as Al di la delle nuvole (Beyond the Clouds) and the American romantic comedy Sabrina, starring Harrison Ford. Ines Sastre also starred as herself in a documentary about the film Beyond the Clouds. Proving talent as an actress, Ines Sastre also proved that she could make it as a model. Her work in commercials for names like Rodier and Max Factor, and ads for American Legend, Ann Taylor, Bally, J. Crew, and J.P. Tod's, paled in comparison to the heavy duty contract she received in 1996. Ines Sastre signed a 3-year contract with Lancome, becoming the next face for its fragrance "Trésor", a title model/actress Isabella Rossellini had previously held. Signed with Next in New York City and in Paris, Ines has also strutted her stuff down the runways for designers such as: Hervé Leger, Jean Paul Gaulthier, Mulberry, Chanel, Vivienne Westwood, Marc Jacobs, and Fendi. Ines Sastre has also graced the cover of Elle (France, Spain, Argentina, Australia, and Sweden editions), Glamour, Vogue (Spain, Australia and Holland editions), just to name a few. Additional accolades for her beauty are the Natural Beauty trophy, which Ines Sastre received at the 1997 Fashion Awards in Paris, and her appearance in the 1997 Pirelli calendar, which is truly a great honor in the fashion industry. Just look at Laetitia Casta - a past Pirelli calendar girl that has enjoyed the benefits of success. In 1997, Ines Sastre played the role of Francesca Babini in Italian director Pupi Avati's movie Il testimone dello sposo. Ines Sastre has also appeared in films such as Il testimone dello sposo (The Best Man), Le Conte de Monte-Cristo and Estela Canto, un amour de Borges.. When not modeling and acting, she is a UNICEF ambassador, while she enjoys horseback riding, playing golf and swimming on her free time. In 2000, Ines Sastre achieved popularity in Italy as a presenter with Fabio Fazio at the Italian Music Festival di San Remo. Presently living in London, the Spanish English Italian French speaking beauty will next be seen in the film Vidocq, to be released in 2001. Ines Sastre is one of the few women today that made the switch from actress to model, as opposed to the regular model-turned-actress we're accustomed to seeing. Her presence in the fashion industry was probably inevitable since, besides her stunning appearance, her mother is the publisher of the Prada catalogue. Ines Sastre has made admirable choices in her career most notably her dedication to her education. With her continuous work as an actress whose star is only on the rise, Ines Sastre is a supermodel with a head on her shoulders albeit a very pretty head. |
