Famous Quote

"I want to pursue as much of a serious acting career as I can, not just a flimsy overnight career. I take it very seriously and I really want to pursue it for the rest of my life. I’m very close with my family. They’re very supportive of what I do and I’m very lucky to have that. I’m very close with my mum. She’s supportive. She, trusts me. She knows that I’m not going to make stupid decisions about things and I guess you have to have quite a mature attitude towards life."

Biography Emilie De Ravin Biography

Emilie de Ravin (born 27 December 1981) is an Australian actress. She is known for starring in the hit ABC drama Lost as the character Claire Littleton. De Ravin is also known for her role as Brendan Frye's heroin-addicted ex-girlfriend Emily in the neo-noir film Brick. An angelic, green-eyed beauty with a natural gift for performance, Emilie de Ravin first caught the attention of television viewers as Tess on the sci-fi series, “Roswell” (1999-2002), before hitting pay dirt as Claire on ABC’s Emmy Award-winning series, “Lost” (2004- ).

A former dancer in her native Australia, de Ravin’s natural grace and acting ability led her to find work in Hollywood shortly after moving to the United States to pursue her career. Named one of Maxim magazine’s “Hot 100” in 2006, the up-and-comer brought her charms to the big screen, appearing in the critically acclaimed independent film “Brick” (2005) and the horror re-make, “The Hills Have Eyes” (2006).

De Ravin was born in Mount Eliza, Victoria, Australia (a town to the south east of Melbourne). Her great-great-grandparents were French, who immigrated to Australia. De Ravin means from (the) ravine in French. Ravin also has British ancestry. Having studied ballet since the age of nine at Christa Cameron School of Ballet in Melbourne, and being home schooled by her mother, she was accepted into the highly selective Australian Ballet School at fifteen. There, she performed in productions with the Australian Ballet as well as Danceworld 301. De Ravin studied acting at Australia's National Institute of Dramatic Art, and with the Prime Time Actors Studio in Los Angeles.

Emilie de Ravin's first major role was as Curupira in the TV series BeastMaster. Later, she played alien/human hybrid Tess Harding in Roswell. She landed this role one month after moving to Los Angeles at the age of 18. She later starred in the hit ABC drama Lost, as the character Claire Littleton. Making her professional acting debut in 1999, de Ravin appeared in a recurring role as the demon Curupira on the syndicated series “Beastmaster: The Legend Continues” (1999-2002). Hoping to further her career, she relocated to Los Angeles the following year and enrolled at the Prime Time Actors Studio. Within a month of moving to L.A., the promising young actress landed yet another recurring role on yet another fan-boy favorite, WB’s hit sci-fi series “Roswell” (1999-2002). Portraying alien Tess Harding on the series, de Ravin’s initial six-episode arc at the end of the series’ first season proved so successful, that she was asked to return in a regular role during the second season.

Following her success on “Roswell,” de Ravin went on to find work on a number of other television projects. She appeared in the television re-make of Stephen King’s cult horror novel, “Carrie” (2002) and landed guest-starring roles on numerous series, including “Navy: NCIS” (CBS, 2003- ), “The Handler” (CBS, 2003-04), and “CSI: Miami” (CBS, 2002- ). In 2006 she starred in the horror film The Hills Have Eyes as Brenda Carter, and in the film Brick, a small film which was popular in the Sundance Film Festival. In 2007, she was honoured by the Australians In Film Council, joining such Australians as Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, Heath Ledger, and Hugh Jackman.

Variety.com reported that she will be staring in the film Ball Don't Lie. It was also reported that she will appear in The Perfect Game She's also been cast in Public Enemies as a bank teller named Anna Patzke. Taking advantage of her recent success as a castaway, de Ravin branched out into film work while on hiatus from the series, appearing in the Brett Ratner-produced dark comedy “Santa’s Slay” (2005) and starring opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the gritty neo-noir drama, “Brick” (2005) –the latter of which, took home the Special Jury Prize at the 2005 Sundance Festival. In 2006, de Ravin continued to put her name out there, appearing as Brenda Carter in the re-make of Wes Craven’s 1970’s horror-flick “The Hills Have Eyes.

She was cast in the movie adaption of the video game Onimusha. But due to producer Samuel Hadida's other project The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and Heath Ledger's tragic death, Hadida was forced to push back Onimusha a first time and focus on getting his other project back on track instead. Onimusha got postponed for an unknown amount of time and there isn't any confirmation if de Ravin will continue the project.

De Ravin married actor Josh Janowicz on 19 June 2006 and it was rumored that they separated after six months of marriage. De Ravin confirmed on the 28 April 2008 episode of the Opie and Anthony Show on XM Radio that she is still, in fact, happily married.
