"I see myself on the cover of a magazine and I don't think that it looks like me at all. My first-ever photo shoot was for the cover of a lads' magazine. I'm just not very good at glamour, It doesn't come easily to me." |

Elize du Toit (born 1981 in South Africa) is a British actress best known for playing the role of Izzy Cornwell in the Channel 4 Soap Opera Hollyoaks from 2000 to 2004, with a brief return in 2007. Elize du Toit was born on the 21st of February 1980 in Grahamstown, South Africa, the second of four children, to an artist mother and an orthodontist father. She spent most of her childhood in Pretoria, SA, where her love for drama began.
She took speech and drama classes from the age of 8, competing yearly in local drama festivals. Her family moved to Berkshire, England in December 1994, where she completed her A-levels, attaining straight As in English, French, History and History of Art. She got involved with the Progress Theatre company in Reading soon after arriving in England, and through that and school productions appeared ias the Boy in Henry V,as Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing, In Molier’s Les Precieuses Ridicules, Mary in ‘our Country’s Good’ and in TS Elliots ‘Murder in the Cathedral’. Although acting was always was her love she went on to study History at Edinburgh University ‘for something to fall back on’.
She immediately got very involved in the student theatre company in Edinburgh – appearing as Kate Hardcastle in ‘She Stoops to Conquer’, Jude in ‘Sexual Perversity in Chicago, Doris in ‘Silly Cow’, Estelle in ‘Huis Clos’, and Constanze in ‘Amadeus’, before attending her first open television audition, for channel 4’s ‘Hollyoaks’ where she beat out 40 000 hopefuls for the role of Izzy, a part she was to play for almost 4 years, moving her life to Liverpool where the show was filmed until 2004.
She was educated at the prestigious Wellington College as a 6th form member of the Apsley Girls' House for two years. Whilst studying for a history degree at the University of Edinburgh she took part in the Hollyoaks "On the Pull" auditions, and subsequently beat 10,000 other hopefuls for a part in the show. She was cast as the character Izzy Cornwell an upper class, attractive blonde who studied at the local college.
After leaving Hollyoaks in 2004 to pursue work in film, she was cast in several new roles. These included: a part in a UPN pilot for a new drama series called Triangle, alongside Ivan Sergei which subsequently failed to be commissioned; a role in a British film Flirting with Flamenco opposite fellow Hollyoaks alumnus Jeremy Edwards; a guest appearance in an episode of the BBC drama series Dalziel and Pascoe; and the role of Sophie Tipper in the acclaimed BBC2 adaptation of Alan Hollinghurst's The Line of Beauty.
In January 2005 Elize made her first trip to Los Angeles for pilot season, where she got the first part she auditioned for playing Bailey Blake opposite DB Woodside and Ivan Sergei, in a one hour drama pilot for UPN. The show wasn’t picked up, so Elize returned to London, where she spent the rest of 2005, winning roles in a feature film, Flirting with Flamenco, and a couple of BBC dramas. In 2006, she filmed 2 features in London – a horror , and a romantic comedy, and her next trip to LA won her a role in her first American feature, Homeland. All 3 of these are due out in 2007.
In 2006, Du Toit filmed roles in three feature films: the British horror movie The Devil's Chair; the comedy In Your Dreams, starring alongside ER's Parminder Nagra and Dexter Fletcher; and her first US movie, the low-budget Homeland. She is currently living in London working on an improv-based sitcom pilot for Fox Television UK and Channel 5 entiltled ‘In Your Ear’ with Neil Morrisey.
In 2008, Du Toit filmed a small role in the movie adaptation of Irvine Welsh's best-selling novel Ecstasy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance. She played a villain credited as 'Sinister Woman' in two episodes of the third series of Doctor Who: "42" and "The Sound of Drums" and shot an appearance in a comedy Pilot In your ears for Five which also featured Katy Brand, Rob Rouse and Neil Morrissey.
Du Toit is also represented as a model by Premier Model Management. Du Toit attended university with Pop Idol contestant and 3rd place runner up Darius Danesh and Tom Chaplin of Keane fame.
