Famous Quote

"I sang at church but I sang more in school. I didn't come from a musical family and never studied it, so I did things my own way. I was going through my own thing listening to the radio. I also had mature tastes. I would hear one of those old love songs and go crazy."

Biography Brooke Valentine Biography

Brooke Valentine (born October 5, 1984 in Houston, Texas), is an American R&B singer-songwriter. She started her musical career as a member of the female group Best Kept Secret. To pursue a solo career, she moved to Los Angeles, California and signed to Subliminal Entertainment/Virgin Records.

Brooke Valentine was displaying her vocal talents from the time she was able to speak. The eldest of three children, Brooke would sing along with the radio as an infant, and then, once in elementary school, she would wow her classmates and teachers by singing in the schoolyard.

She released her debut album Chain Letter in March of 2005. It sold 340,000 copies in the US. The album features her hit debut single, "Girlfight" released late 2004, in a collaboration with rappers Big Boi and Lil Jon, a song about tension between two girls which ends up in a catfight.

Though she was willing to hone her vocal gift, Brooke was shy as a child, and it took some prodding for her to practice in front of an audience. To encourage her, Brooke's grandmother would sign her up for solo performances at church every Sunday. Thrust into the role of soloist in front of the entire congregation, Brooke would always shine.

Brooke began to dream of making a career out of singing, and as a young teen, that dream became a possible reality. While strolling through a mall with a friend, Brooke struck up a conversation with an enterprising young man named Deja, who happened to be an aspiring music producer. Brooke showed off her singing abilities to her new friend and soon, Deja went to work helping her further develop them.

The first single from her second album Physical Education was "D-Girl" ("Dope Girl") which charted even lower than her previous single efforts. The second single, "Pimped Out" was released in November 2006 and went nowhere, becoming another very unsuccessful single for Valentine. The album has been delayed several times and the current release date has not been announced.

Fittingly, it did not take long for one of Brooke's songs to become a hit. Her first release, "Girlfight," was an instant hit on the radio and in the clubs, fueled by rumours that the song had been inspired by a run-in with fellow R&B/hip-hopper Ciara. From here, news of Brooke's arrival on the scene spread like wildfire. Her collaborations with popular rap icons (such as the late Ol' Dirty Bastard on the track "Blah, Blah, Blah") and the backing of several established producers made Brooke's future success a sure-fire bet.

Brooke Valentine's career has been groomed by a producer who placed the vocalist in a short-lived late-'90s group called Best Kept Secret. After the group fell through, the two relocated from Houston to Los Angeles with the intent to land a solo record deal. Within a couple years, Valentine secured a contract with Virgin, and her debut album Chain Letter, featuring production help from Lil Jon, Bloodshy, Heatmakerz, and the Soul Diggas was released in February of 2005.

It took two more years of practice and training before Brooke was ready to start work on her debut album. This span of time must have translated into a lot of pent-up creativity for the singer, who managed to write and record her album in just four months. Released on March 15, 2005, Chain Letter featured a wide range of catchy tracks, all co-written by Valentine and produced by the best hitmakers of the hip-hop world. Chain Letter is the debut album by Brooke Valentine, released on March 15, 2005 (see 2005 in music). The album contains the lead single "Girlfight", that features Big Boi from the band Outkast, and Lil Jon. "Girlfight" peaked at #23 in the Billboard Hot 100 and is a song about tension between two girls which ends up in a catfight.

The second and last single released off the album was "Long As You Come Home", peaking at #71 in the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks proving that it could have been successful had a video been released. The album peaked at #16 in the Billboard 200 on April 2, 2005 and #3 in the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart. Although the album was critically acclaimed, the album sold only 340,000 copies in the US.

"Girlfight" is the first single recorded by R&B singer Brooke Valentine. It was her first single from her debut album Chain Letter. The song features Lil Jon and Big Boi from OutKast. The song is about a tension between two girls who end up in a catfight and was a minor Top 30 hit, peaking at #23. A remix was made which features Valentine, Lil Jon, Jazzie, Da Brat, Ms. B and Remy Ma. This remains as Valentine's only hit.

"Long As You Come Home" is the second single from Hip hop/R&B singer Brooke Valentine's debut album Chain Letter. The song was chosen as the official second single from Brooke Valentine's debut album, Chain Letter. The song was not a hit and it turned out being the final single released off her album. With very little promotion, the song reached #71 on the Hip Hop/R&B charts. The song was also remixed and featured rappers Mike Jones and Paul Wall. The song samples the Camp Lo hit "Luchini AKA This Is It".

"D-Girl" ("Dope Girl") is a song by the American female R&B singer/rapper Brooke Valentine. The song was released on May 16, 2006 to iTunes and is featured on Valentine's forthcoming album Physical Education. The music video premiered on June 15, 2006 on BET's 106 & Park as "the new joint of the day". Also, the video was the highest debuting video of the week at Yahoo!'s Launch. The video debuted at #35 and is #6 in the R&B genre. Pimped Out was the second single from Brooke Valentine's second album, Physical Education. The single was released in 2006, and peaked at #87 in the R&B/Hip hop charts and did not chart on the Hot 100.
