Famous Quote

"I let the phone ring all day that day, I wouldn't answer it, because I thought I already knew. Don't rely on men but don't shun them either. I am a liberated woman. And I do believe if a woman does equal work she should be paid equal money. But personally I am feminine and I do like male authority to lean on."

Biography Amanda Detmer Biography

Amanda Jeannette Detmer (born September 27, 1971) is an American actress who has appeared in various films and television shows. A petite blonde actress with pretty, pixiesh features and a high energy presence, California native Amanda Detmer made her debut in the TV-movie "Stolen Innocence" (CBS) in 1995. A local girl (the project was lensed in her native Chico), Detmer impressed with a featured role in the telepic, but resumed her education, earning her BA and later her MFA in theater.

In 1998 she spent a summer on stage in Minneapolis and that same year lensed a starring role in the mystical independent drama "Last Seen". Although she had by now completed her graduate degree at New York University and was in her late twenties, Detmer easily adapted to teen roles, possessing youthful looks and bubbly charm. 1999 saw the actress make her big screen debut playing Miss Minneapolis in the Minnesota beauty pageant-set comedy "Drop Dead Gorgeous". Television work in the NBC miniseries "To Serve and Protect" (NBC) and the very short-lived series "Ryan Caulfield: Year One" (Fox) put her among fictional police that same year.

Detmer was born in Chico, California, the daughter of Susan, a reading teacher, and Melvin Detmer, a singing cowboy. She attended California State University, Chico for her undergraduate education; deciding to complete her Master of Fine Arts from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts before seriously embarking on a career in show business.

Detmer made her onscreen debut in 1995 with the television movie Stolen Innocence, and her big screen debut playing Miss Minneapolis in the beauty pageant-set comedy Drop Dead Gorgeous. She has also made notable film appearances in Final Destination, Saving Silverman, The Majestic and Big Fat Liar. In television, she also appeared in the ABC drama What About Brian. Detmer made greater strides in 2000, with a featured role in the ensemble of the teen thriller "Final Destination".

Playing Terry, the agreeable girlfriend of thickheaded jock Carter (Kerr Smith) offered her increased visibility and the chance to suffer what may be the most genuinely startling demise in the contemporary spate of teen scream films. While her character would no doubt stay down, Detmer saw her profile continue to rise that year, starring as an understanding and upbeat teacher with a regular role on Don Roos' edgy comedy "M.Y.O.B." (NBC) and taking on a co-starring role alongside hot tickets Claire Forlani, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jason Biggs in Robert Iscove's college-set romantic comedy "Boys and Girls". In 2001, she reteamed with Biggs, playing his love interest (and a would-be nun) in the daffy comedy "Saving Silverman".

She also gained exposure and television experience on the series MYOB and Ryan Caulfield: Year One. Finding an asset in her youthfulness, she then appeared in two teen films, despite being in her late twenties, in 2000: Boys and Girls a romantic comedy starring Freddie Prinze Jr., Claire Forlani, and Jason Biggs and the thriller Final Destination. She starred as a would-be nun, longed for by the character played by Jason Biggs in Saving Silverman (2001), also featuring Jack Black.

In The Majestic (also 2001), she portrays the woman Jim Carrey leaves behind when stricken with amnesia. In addition to smaller roles in 2002's Kiss the Bride and Big Fat Liar, she also starred as an understanding and upbeat teacher with a regular role on Don Roos' edgy comedy "M.Y.O.B." (NBC) and taking on a co-starring role alongside hot tickets Claire Forlani, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jason Biggs in Robert Iscove's college-set romantic comedy "Boys and Girls".
