Famous Quote: “I think controversy is good. It makes people think. I go to work every day and it’s like I stand up for the rights of every human being in the world. There’s lots of satisfaction that comes out of that. It brings the biggest smile to my face. My dad’s Persian, my mother is Spanish, and I was born in Texas. Growing up, all I wanted to be was white because all my friends had blond hair and blue eyes. Then I came to L.A. and realized, Oh, maybe it’s good to be different.”

Biography:

Aahoo Jahansouz Shahi, also known as Sarah Shahi (born January 10, 1980, in Euless, Texas, U.S.), is an American actress and model of Iranian and Spanish descent. former NFL Cheerleader and a great-great-granddaughter of the 19th century Persian Shah Fath Ali Shah Qajar by Begom Khanom (daughter of Hossein Qoli Khan Afshar, niece of Begom Khanom, daughter of Emam Qoli Khan Afshar), through their son Jahansouz Shah.

Shahi was named #90 on the Maxim magazine “Hot 100 of 2005″ list; she moved up to #66 in 2006. Exotic actress Sarah Shahi earned a following after a pair of turns on two of cable television’s most acclaimed and controversial series. She was the Mexican-American D.J. romanced and dumped by her lesbian lover on “The L Word” (Showtime, 2004- ), and she played a savvy stripper who enjoys a peyote-fueled fling with Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) in the final season of “The Sopranos” (HBO, 1999-2007). The wide-spread exposure that came with both parts, combined with her earthy sexuality – which was captured in several mens’ magazine spreads, such as Maxim – made her a favorite among male viewers and Internet surfers.

Sarah Shahi was born in Euless, Texas, to an Iranian father and Spanish mother, Abbas and Mahmonir Jahansouz Shahi. She attended Trinity High School and Dallas’ Southern Methodist University, majoring in English and Opera [6]. Shahi started her career as a beauty queen during her teen years. She won the Miss Fort Worth USA pageant in 1997. She joined the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders 1999-2000 squad and appeared on the cover of their 2000 calendar.

While working as an extra on the set of Dr. T and the Women, she met director Robert Altman, who encouraged her to move to Hollywood. Sarah then moved to Los Angeles. Once in L.A., she got various recurrent roles in several famous series, such as Alias, where she played Jenny, Dawson’s Creek, where she was Sadia Shaw, and The L Word where she played Carmen de la Pica Morales. Shahi was also the first ghost in Supernatural, the CW paranormal drama series. While working as an extra on “Dr. T. and the Women” (2000), Shahi met director Robert Altman, who encouraged her to pursue acting. She relocated to Los Angeles and began working almost immediately in television and film. Shahi graduated quickly from bit parts, to recurring roles on series like “Alias” (ABC, 2001-06) and “Dawson’s Creek” (The WB, 1999-2003).

She is best known for her role as the Mexican-American DJ Carmen de la Pica Morales in the Showtime drama television series The L Word, which she joined in its second season. Sarah did not renew her contract with the L Word for a fourth season, and consequently her character was written out. In 2005, Shahi joined the cast of “The L Word” as Carmen de la Pica Morales, a budding D.J. who plays roommates Shane McCutcheon (Katherine Moennig) and Jenny (Mia Kershner) off each other in an attempt to win Shane’s affections. Eventually, she becomes involved with Shane, but the relationship ends up tumultuous, with much of the conflict over issues of fidelity. Their romance climaxes with Shane abandoning Carmen on the day of their wedding. Carmen’s fiery temper and the intense psycho-sexual drama of her relationship with Shane helped make the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons among the series’ most dramatic and watchable. Interestingly enough, Shahi was unsure if she wanted the role after she landed it, but soon came to consider it among her best work.

She also appeared in HBO’s The Sopranos, in the Season 6b episode “Kennedy and Heidi,” as Sonya Aragon, a stripper and college student who spends a weekend with Tony after a death in his family. Shahi had a small role in Christopher Guest’s mockumentary “For Your Consideration” (2007), but her most noteworthy turn of that year came in the “Sopranos” episode titled “Kennedy and Heidi.” In it, she played Sonya Aragon, a savvy Las Vegas-based woman paying her way through college by stripping, who also happens to be a friend of Tony’s cousin and loyal crew member Christopher Moltisanti (Michael Imperioli).

Although uncredited by most sources, Sarah also appeared in Jackie Chan movie Rush Hour 3 as one of the girls being handcuffed along with Mia Tyler for motoring offence by Chris Tucker early in the film. Sarah speaks English, Persian, and some Spanish, and has a Brown belt in Karate.

Sarah’s currently starring as one of the leads alongside Damian Lewis in the new NBC hit show Life which started airing in the U.S. in late September 2007, and which has been renewed for a second season for the Fall of 2008. Shahi is in a relationship with actor Steve Howey, who starred as Van in the CW show Reba. Her acting coach is Bill Howey, Steve’s father.
