"I was raised by five women. I'm a lover, not a fighter. Our short film kind of led to this incredible experience of winning an Academy Award and going on stage right after Sidney Poitier. It did what we hoped it would and that was provide us a calling card for us as filmmakers and our sense of humor. I was this kid with a lot of emotion who didn’t quite understand how to deal with it, and being in front of people expressing it publicly somehow made sense
and felt really good." |

Walton Sanders Goggins, Jr. (born November 10, 1971) is an American actor. He is a regular on the FX Networks series, The Shield, portraying "Detective Shane Vendrell". Goggins was producer of the 2001 short film The Accountant, which won an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film. While Goggins was not officially listed as a winner, he did go up during the ceremony and accept the award alongside Ray McKinnon and Lisa Blount.
Goggins was born in Alabama and raised in Lithia Springs, Georgia. At the age of 10, Goggins and his mother were the state wide champion cloggers, otherwise known as Mountain Dancing. When B.B. King was on tour, Goggins and his mother opened for him at the Atlanta Fulton County Prison. He wed wife, Leanne, on the set of Shanghai Noon in Canada in 2001. Leanne Goggins suffered from severe clinical depression and tragically committed suicide by jumping from a building in Los Angeles on 12 November 2004. All his cast mates from The Shield attended Leanne's memorial service.
In 1989, Goggins graduated from Lithia Springs High School. During his freshman year he attended Campbell High School in Smyrna, GA (same school attended by Julia Roberts). During his early Hollywood experience, he managed his own valet parking service and, while performing as an actor, Goggins founded his own production company, Ginny Mule Pictures. In 2002 he made his first appearance as regular cast member in FX networks series The Shield as Detective Shane Vendrell, which is a fictional character on the FX Networks police drama television series The Shield. He is portrayed by actor Walton Goggins. Shane is a Farmington detective who has been heavily involved in the dealings of Vic Mackey's Strike Team, since its formation. His racist, reckless attitude often got him in trouble, after which Vic typically bailed him out. He has a wife, Mara, as well as a young son, Jackson.
He won first prize at the Gold West State Days Hog Calling Contest. At the age of 10 he and his mother were the statewide champion Cloggers, otherwise known as Mountain Dancing. When B.B. King was on tour, Goggins and his mother opened for him at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta.
His wife Leanne owned a dog walking business; they had a dog called Beulah who is still with Walton. He wed Leanne on the set of Shanghai Noon (2000) in Canada. All his cast mates from "The Shield" (2002) attended his wife Leanne's memorial service (she committed suicide in Los Angeles by jumping off a building).
