Robert Joy (born August 17, 1951) is a Canadian actor. A compact, lanky, blond who is able to seem controlled and fraught, as well as off-balance, Robert Joy is an actor who has worked in leading and supporting roles on stage and screen. Born and raised in Canada, he spent three years with the Newfoundland Company CODCO as an actor, writer and composer. Joy was a Rhodes scholar at Oxford before landing in NYC to pursue an acting career. 

His first Off Broadway work was as Peter Van Daan in "The Diary of Anne Frank" (1978-79). His subsequent appearances include John Guare's "Lydie Breeze" (1982), the 1983 world premiere of Roger Miller's musical "Big River" (in which he originated the role of Huck Finn at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Massachusetts) and the Broadway productions of Noel Coward's "Hay Fever" (1985-86), opposite Rosemary Harris and Campbell Scott, and "The Nerd" (1987). He originated the role of Julian Hyde, an actor with a secret during the Golden Age of Motion Pictures in "Hyde in Hollywood" (1989), a role he recreated for PBS' "American Playhouse" in 1991.

Joy was born in Montreal, Quebec, the son of Flora Louise (née Pike) and Clifton Joseph Joy. He attended Oxford University and Memorial University of Newfoundland.

Joy played Madonna's punk musician boyfriend Jim in 1985's Desperately Seeking Susan.Prior to that he had played the part of Dave Matthews in 1980's Atlantic City. In 1998, Joy appeared in Gregory Hoblit's thriller Fallen, where he fit into the all star cast that included Denzel Washington, Donald Sutherland, James Gandolfini and John Goodman. In 2004, Joy made an appearance on an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond entitled "Ally's F" as Ally's math teacher, Mr. Putnam. Joy's TV work has been a bit more sporadic. 

He was in the CBS movie "Escape From Iran: The Canadian Caper" (1981), the story of a rescue mission devised by Ross Perot, and played an Israeli agent in "Sword of Gideon" (HBO, 1986). Joy has also appeared with Tracey Ullman and as Lorenzo Tapping in three "American Playhouse" (PBS) productions based on Owen Johnson's "The Lawrenceville Stories": "The Prodigious Hickey" (1987), "The Return of Hickey" (1988); and "The Beginning of the Firm" (1989).

Starting in fall 2005, he joined NBC television show, E-Ring and is now a regular on CSI: NY. Joy recently had a lead role as the simple-minded sharpshooter Charlie in George A. Romero's latest zombie movie, Land of the Dead. He last appeared onscreen in Alexandre Aja's remake of The Hills Have Eyes where he portrays a mutant named Lizard. He also starred as Ted Bedworth, father of Samaire Armstrong's character Nell Bedworth, in the 2006 romantic comedy It's a Boy/Girl Thing.

He played the character of Colonel Stevens in Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem. In addition to his acting, Joy was frequently associated with CODCO, working with the comedy troupe on many of their pre-television stage shows and appearing as a guest performer in the series. He also co-starred in the 1986 Andy Jones film, The Adventure of Faustus Bidgood, the only film that features the entire cast of CODCO.
