Famous Quote

"I'm pretty political when it comes to human rights and things like that. I think that every show on television has its place. I think Married With Children or, I don't know, The Nanny... some people want to go home, turn on the TV and be able to iron their clothes or grab a sandwich. Come out and catch a joke and not have to follow the story."

Biography Peter Krause Biography

Peter William Krause (born August 12, 1965) is a Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-nominated and Screen Actors Guild Award-winning American film and television actor and film producer. He is perhaps best known for his lead roles as Nate Fisher on the popular HBO drama Six Feet Under and Nick George on the ABC dramedy, Dirty Sexy Money. An affable actor with all-American good looks, Peter Krause began his television career as part of Carol Burnett's comedic ensemble on "Carol & Company" (CBS, 1990-91). Several guest starring roles followed, allowing the tall, slender light-haired actor to add his charm to programs ranging from "Seinfeld" to "Beverly Hills, 90210" to "Caroline in the City" to "The Drew Carey Show".

Peter Krause was born in Alexandria, Minnesota. Growing up in Roseville, he was a skilled track and field athlete, but he suffered an unfortunate pole vaulting injury in high school that ended his athletic career. He attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota and became interested in theatre. Graduating from Gustavus Adolphus in 1987, he decided to pursue acting as a career and enrolled in the Master of Fine Arts program at New York University. While working as a bartender in New York City, he met writer Aaron Sorkin.

In 1995, Krause had regular roles on two series that met with a quick demise, Fox's "The Great Defender" and CBS' "If Not For You". In both he played less than likable characters, starring as an arrogant well-born attorney in the former, and the man standing in the way of his fiancee Elizabeth McGovern's love at first sight romance with an equally smitten and attached Hank Azaria. Later that year, the actor began his three-year run on "Cybill" (CBS), which provided a more successful and longer lasting role. As Kevin, the college professor husband of Cybill's straight-laced daughter Rachel (DeDee Pfeiffer), Krause played a naively square but endearing character, often engaging in zany plots at the behest of his unconventional mother-in-law. From 1998-2000 Krause portrayed the character Casey McCall on the ABC comedy Sports Night, created by his friend Aaron Sorkin.

Although the show received considerable critical acclaim, it struggled to find an audience and was cancelled after two seasons. His most significant television role to date, though, was as anchor Casey McCall on "Sports Night" (ABC, 1998-2000). Set at a fictional sports news program modeled after ESPN's popular "SportsCenter", the series, created by playwright Aaron Sorkin (who once worked as a bartender alongside Krause in NYC), was an unconventional comedy noted for its fast-paced dialogue and lack of a laugh track. Despite struggling in the ratings, the show received critical acclaim, and Krause's sensitive portrayal of the recently divorced reporter was well-played, both for empathy and for laughs.

Krause starred in the series Six Feet Under in 2001 and received much critical acclaim and several award nominations (including three Emmy nominations) for his portrayal of funeral director Nate Fisher. In 2004, the actor branched out into feature films with the indie drama "We Don't Live Here Anymore," playing part of a pair of suburban, academic couples who self-destrcutively engage in extramarital affairs with the neighboring spouses.

In December 2006 he played the lead role, Detective Joe Miller, in the Sci Fi Channel miniseries The Lost Room. He is currently starring in ABC's new drama Dirty Sexy Money alongside veteran actor Donald Sutherland. Peter Krause is currently living in Los Angeles. He has a son, Roman Krause, and two siblings, Amy and Michael.

Dated Alicia Witt in 1998. Attended Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, Minnesota. Has one sister, Amy. Last name is pronounced KROW-zuh. First child, a son named Roman, born 2001. MFA in Acting - New York University, Tisch School of the Arts (1990). Peter's father was a high school English teacher, and his mother was a second grade teacher. Was pre-med at Gustavus Adolphus College before switching to his final major of English Literature.

For "Six Feet Under" (2001), he originally auditioned for the part of David, as he was impressed by the political/human rights message that the role had and he wanted to stand up for the character. However, the creator, Alan Ball had found the role of Nate Fisher impossible to cast, and was impressed by Krause and his tangible chemistry with Rachel Griffiths (Brenda Chenowith).

Krause spent his youth immersed heavily in track and field and gymnastics. Following a career-ending high school pole-vaulting injury, Krause took to the stage during his education at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. While pursuing his acting career in New York University's Master of Fine Arts acting program, he worked as a bartender with writer Aaron Sorkin at the Palace Theater.
