"In the hip-hop community, it's about how real are you, or how strong can you be, and really my music just reflects me. If you can accept me, then you can accept my music. The people who truly love me and loved me before all of this stuff. You can't ever leave them behind. We are already expected to be the goodie two shoes. I went through that during my junior high schools where I wasn't allowed to watch television. I wasn't allowed to listen to the radio." |

Nicholas Scott Cannon (born October 8, 1980) is an American actor and rapper. This young, multi-faceted heart throb began performing at the age of eight. A lover of music (he played the drums, the harmonica and the synthesizer) Cannon was displaying his musical talents on stage well before his teenage years. As an overall entertainer, it wasn't long before Cannon realized that he had the gift of making people laugh. By the age of 16, he headed out to Hollywood and began performing at renowned venues such as The Improv, The Comedy Store and The Laugh Factory.
He eventually caught the attention of the Nickelodeon executives and was hired as an audience warmer for the Nickelodeon series "All That" (1995). It wasn't long before Cannon was cast as a season regular. He then became the co-host of Nickelodeon's "All That Musical Festival And More" tour. After serving as the co-host of the networks 47 city tour, he signed on to co-host Nickelodeon's "Snick House" and later, hosted the network's music based program "TEENick."
Cannon was born in San Diego, California to James Cannon and Beth Hackett. He attended Avocado Elementary School in Spring Valley, California, Quail Hollow Middle School in Charlotte, North Carolina and Monte Vista High School in Spring Valley, California. He began performing at the age of eight, and later formed the rap duo "Da Bomb Squad" with his best friend. Together they opened for the likes of Will Smith, LFO, 98 Degrees, and Montell Jordan. When Cannon was sixteen, he moved to Hollywood, where he performed at such comedy clubs as The Improv, The Laugh Factory and the Comedy Store.
In 1998, Cannon scored his television debut on Nickelodeon's All That. Cannon then went on to act in several feature films such as Whatever It Takes, Men In Black II, and had his first starring role in Drumline. Cannon went back to television, and created The Nick Cannon Show, a spin-off of All That. In 2003, he starred in the movie Love Don't Cost a Thing, and appeared in the movie Roll Bounce in 2005. In 2000, Cannon made the jump to film with a brief appearance in the romantic comedy, “Whatever It Takes,” followed by another small role in the hit sequel, “Men In Black II” (2002).
That same year, Cannon had a breakout role as the star of "The Nick Cannon Show” (Nickelodeon, 2001-2003), on which he also served as creator and executive producer. But it was the feature "Drumline” (2003) that propelled him into stardom. In this coming-of-age tale centered in the world of showstyle marching bands, Cannon played Devon, a drummer from Harlem with a chip on his shoulder who earns a scholarship to a fictional Atlanta university. Though his brash attitude rubs the band director (Orlando Jones) and drumline captain (Leonard Roberts) the wrong way, Devon is given the chance to display his incredible talent, but he must learn to be part of the team. “Drumline” was a surprise hit, making over $56 million at the box office against its modest budget, while earning steady kudos from critics.
Wild 'N Out returned for its third season on August 10, 2006 and ended October 5 of that year. A new sketch comedy show created by Cannon, called Short Circuitz, debuted on April 5, 2007. Filmed a pilot produced by Will Smith for the WB Network called "Loose Cannon" during the summer of 2001. Graduated from Monte Vista High School in Spring Valley, California in 1998. Off the success of “Drumline,” Cannon began landing more roles in feature films. In “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” (2003), a remake of “Can’t Buy Me Love” (1987), he played an egghead teenager dedicated to his studies and building an engine that will get him into college.
But when the school’s popular girl (Christina Milian) wrecks her mom’s Escalade, the übergeek hatches a plan that forces her to be his girlfriend for two weeks while he repairs the damaged vehicle. Despite the charm of the two leads, the flimsy romantic comedy fell flat with audiences and critics alike. After voicing Louis in “Garfield” (2004), he waxed poetic as the Thoreau-quoting assistant to a private investigator (Richard Jenkins) in the dance-themed romantic comedy, “Shall We Dance?” (2004). Cannon then concocted the idea for “The Underclassman” (2005),
Nick wrote a song about when his young mother found out she was pregnant with him. The song he wrote is called "Can I Live?" and was his thank you for his mother for giving him life. Formed the rap duo "Da Bomb Squad" with his best friend. They opened for the likes of Will Smith, LFO, 98 Degrees, and Montell Jordan. Son of famous L.A. casting director, Benny Cannon. Married Mariah Carey just a month after dating her.
Cannon dated Grammy-nominated singer and actress Christina Milian. She has stated in an interview with Blender magazine that she discovered his infidelity from checking his Sidekick. Milian claims that they are still friends. In an interview for Sister 2 Sister magazine, Cannon discussed the relationship and reasons for the breakup. Cannon also briefly dated socialite Kim Kardashian. Cannon began dating Victoria's Secret model Selita Ebanks in February 2007. Six weeks later, on May 7, 2007, Cannon proposed to Ebanks via the Times Square jumbotron. On October 4 of the same year, People announced that the couple called off their engagement.
In late April 2008, Access Hollywood reported Cannon's engagement to Mariah Carey. In early May 2008, the couple obtained a marriage license in the Bahamian island of Eleuthera. Cannon's family later confirmed that the couple were married at Carey's private estate on Windermere Island in the Bahamas.
