Famous Quote

"When I first started, I wasn't really into movies that much unless it was an action-packed, gunslinger with naked women here and there. There's a tendency to fall into certain habits, but if you tell yourself not to do that and if you don't stay there too long, I think if you start staying for too long, you tend to fall into certain bad habits, and I tried not to do that."

Biography Josh Duhamel Biography

Joshua David Duhamel (pronounced duh-MEL; born November 14, 1972) is a Daytime Emmy Award-winning American actor and former fashion model. He first achieved acting success as Leo du Pres on ABC's All My Children (a role he originated in 1999) and later as the chief of security, Danny McCoy, on NBC's Las Vegas. It was perfectly appropriate that actor Josh Duhamel attained national prominence on the TV show “Las Vegas” (2003- ). Las Vegas, the gambling capital of the world, was built on the inherent human belief in luck, and Duhamel was always a prime example of uncanny good fortune. From being born with stunningly handsome looks, to stumbling into lucrative modeling and acting careers, Duhamel seemed to succeed without trying. But to get a break was one thing; to take advantage of that break was another. To his credit, Duhamel worked hard, and it was that dedication to his craft that caught the attention of director Michael Bay and won Duhamel a coveted part in the summer blockbuster feature “Transformers” (2007).

“Las Vegas” was a solid primetime performer for NBC, despite taking its beatings from critics. It raised Duhamel’s stature around Hollywood and ensured he found work in features during breaks from shooting the TV series. “Turistas” (2006) was a forgettable low-budget entry in the “torture porn” pantheon of grisly horror films, with the film dying as quickly as Duhamel’s character in the movie. But his luck held up when he was cast as Captain Lennox in Michael Bay’s baby, “Transformers.” While machines and CGI effects were the real stars of this loud and long box-office behemoth, the movie showcased Duhamel’s athleticism and leading man looks. It was one of the biggest international blockbusters of 2007, and served notice that Duhamel might become the next TV star-turned-movie action hero in the tradition of Bruce Willis.

Acting was not the first priority in Josh's mind while he was still studying at Minot State University. The football player studied biology with the intention of going to dental school after getting his degree. Josh decided to retake organic chemistry and physics to bump up his GPA. Josh ended up dropping a one credit art class thinking it wouldn't matter because he had already taken so many advanced art classes but, unfortunately, people at the Minot State University couldn't care less about it and Josh finally became one credit short.

When Josh was 26 years old, he worked in the construction business and it was by sheer luck that he got into the celebrity business. Josh was with his ex-girlfriend and a scout from a modeling agency in San Francisco asked him if he would be interested in modeling. Josh couldn't believe what had happened but, after realizing it was real, he decided to think about the offer. A few days later, Josh was accepted and he did a lot of commercial work, even beating out fellow model Ashton Kutcher for a place as a top model.

Modelling eventually gave way to acting as Josh was asked to audition for the title character in The Picture of Dorian Gray (2004), from the novel by Oscar Wilde. He got the part and, even though the movie didn't become a big hit at the box office, Josh got into the real business where he landed a role as the lead star in the daytime soap, "All My Children" (1970). Josh had to move to New York City as the show was being shot there. He played "Leo DuPress" in the award-winning show from 1999-2002.

Josh was nominated for three Daytime Emmy Nominations, including an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in 2002. In 2003, he decided to quit "All My Children" (1970) and he left New York to return to Los Angeles. It was there when he landed his first major movie role. He got a part in Win a Date with Tad Hamilton! (2004), playing the title character.

Duhamel was born in Minot, North Dakota, the son of Bonnie, a physical education teacher, and Larry David Duhamel, an advertising salesman. His parents divorced during his youth, and while he remains close to both, he grew up with his mother and his younger sisters Ashlee, Mckenzee and Kassidy. Duhamel attended Minot State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, with the intention of attending dental school. He also played on the university's football team, as a quarterback.

Prior to his major success, Duhamel won the title of Male Model of the Year in an IMTA modeling competition in 1997 (his first runner-up was Ashton Kutcher). His big break happened in 1999 when he won the role of Leo du Pres, a charming schemer, on the ABC soap opera All My Children. His work on the show, especially his character's pairing with Rebecca Budig's Greenlee Smythe, garnered critical acclaim. Duhamel often referred to Rebecca Budig as "Little Budig". In 2002, Duhamel earned a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for Special Fan Award for America's Favorite Couple shared with Budig, and won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Leo du Pres. Later that year, Duhamel opted to leave All My Children to pursue other acting opportunities.

After playing "Tad Hamilton", Josh landed one of the starring roles alongside Oscar-nominated James Caan in the TV show, "Las Vegas" (2003). He got the role of the young "Danny McCoy", who works in the security department in Montecito. Josh said that it was pretty easy to relate to his character "Danny McCoy" in "Las Vegas" (2003) because he grew up sort of blue collar. Josh also recently became more recognized as he starred in the movie Transformers as Captain Lennox and the movie Turistas as Alex, garnering him more success.

In the love line, Josh was previously engaged to his girlfriend of five years, Kristy Pierce, but the wedding was called off two weeks before it was to take place in May of 2004. In December 2007, Josh became engaged to Stacy Ferguson, better known as "Fergie" from The Black Eyed Peas. Fergie has also guest-starred in an episode of "Las Vegas" (2003) together with her band.

Josh is currently working on "Las Vegas" (2003) and he is hoping that by starring in "Las Vegas" (2003), it will lead him to a possible movie career. Josh has expressed his wish to hopefully do a George Clooney and focus on acting on movies full time as he gets older. He recently bought a house in Los Angeles with Fergie, where he is currently living.

In 2003, Duhamel landed a prime time role on the NBC show Las Vegas playing casino security agent, Danny McCoy. He succeeded James Caan as president of the Montecito after Caan departed at the end of the fourth season. Duhamel has also played the character on Crossing Jordan in a crossover arc. Duhamel has appeared on the big screen, landing roles in films such as 2004's Win a Date with Tad Hamilton! and 2007's Transformers. Duhamel has also appeared in the music videos for Donna Summer's song, "I Will Go With You (Con te partirò)", in 1998 and Christina Aguilera's song, "Genie in a Bottle", in 1999.

He starred in the yet-to-be-released independent film The Picture of Dorian Gray (2004) in 1999, then ABC called him to test for the role of "Leo du Pres". To Josh's shock, ABC executives wanted him so much that they postponed the character's first air date by more than a month to accommodate his schedule.

He lived in New York City until relocating to Los Angeles. His on-again, off-again ex-girlfriend of over two years, Kristy Pierce, lives in Los Angeles. They were engaged in 2004 but subsequently split. In December of 2007, he became engaged to Stacy Ferguson, aka "Fergie" of The Black Eyed Peas. Josh's father, Larry, is an ad salesman, and his mother, Bonny, is a teacher. Josh wanted to be a dentist from the time he was a sophomore in high school. He gave up his dream to become a dentist when his grades were not good enough to get in a dental college. As a result he moved to California where he got discovered while posing for fashion magazines.

Turned down the role of Dusty Donovan on "As the World Turns" (1956) in 2002, saying that he would return to daytime only on "All My Children" (1970). January 2004: announced on ABC's "The View" (1997) that he is now engaged to longtime girlfriend Kristy Pierce. Shares the same middle name as his father. Has relocated to Los Angeles. On People (USA) magazine's '50 Most Beautiful' list in 2004. Won the IMTA (International Modeling and Talent Association) Male Model of the Year Award, 1997. Earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in biology at Minot State. He enjoys basketball, football, skiing and golf.

Has three younger sisters Ashley, Cassidy and Mckenzie. His name is a very common French last name among Francophones meaning "From the Hamlet". When he was a teenager he worked as a lifeguard at a local pool. Enjoys basketball, football, skiing, & golf in his days off. Branched into entrepreneurship, opening a restaurant, 10 North Main, in his hometown with his best friend. Owns a restaurant in his home town of Minot, North Daktoa called "10 North Main". He is now engaged to Stacy "Fergie" Ferguson, who is a singer in the band The Black Eyed Peas. They met, and began dating, in September 2004 when she and her band appeared on Duhamel's show Las Vegas (in an episode titled "Montecito Lancers", which aired on November 1, 2004).
