"I think people should do what makes them happy. Peer pressure shouldn't make an impact on what you want to do with your life. I'm scared of dolls. When I was a little kid, we used to go to my grandma's house and she'd have all these porcelain dolls and they are just freaky. They have those little painted faces on them. and ugh! They used to scare the crap out of me." |

Chad Michael Murray (born August 24, 1981) is an American actor, former male fashion model and teen idol. He is perhaps best known for his role as Lucas Scott in The CW series One Tree Hill. Attractively rumpled blue-eyed blond performer Chad Michael Murray began as a model and successfully segued to an acting career with high profile roles on The WB on the small screen and parts as teen queen love interests on the big screen.
After winning an opportunity to model in Orlando, this Buffalo native landed representation and headed to Los Angeles following his high school graduation. As a model in campaigns for Tommy Hilfiger, Gucci and Sketchers, Murray gained visibility. He made his acting debut on an episode of the PAX TV series "Chicken Soup For the Soul" in 1999. The following year he guested as a teen suspect on "Diagnosis Murder" (2000) and began his 2000-2001 recurring turn as Tristan, the over-privileged prep school tormenter of Rory (Alexis Bledel), on "Gilmore Girls". Though the character cast opposite Rory in the school production of "Romeo and Juliet" and hell-bent on riling up her good-natured boyfriend was smarmy arrogance personified, this role earned Murray the attention of the series' large youth audience, and the actor was soon named a teen heartthrob, landing on the pages of all the top magazines for young women.
Murray was born in Clarence, New York, just outisde of Buffalo, New York, the son of Rex Murray, an air traffic controller. In 1999, the aspiring actor headed for Hollywood where he supported himself modeling for such clients as Sketchers, Tommy Hilfiger and Gucci. Chad won a scholarship from a modeling agency in Buffalo to attend a modeling convention in Orlando. There he met his destiny when an agent from Los Angeles spotted him and persuaded the seventeen-year-old to pursue his dream of acting upon graduation from high school.
In 1999, the aspiring actor headed for Hollywood where he supported himself modeling for such clients as Sketchers, Tommy Hilfiger and Gucci while looking for a break. Soon after he arrived, Chad appeared in several guest-starring television roles including an episode of "Diagnosis Murder" (1993). Then he got the call he'd been hoping for. The WB's "Gilmore Girls" (2000) was casting for the role of Tristan DuGrey. They were looking for someone who was likable and charismatic but with an edgy side, and someone who had that certain "IT" quality. Chad was all that plus he had the perfect physical characteristics that the show's writers had in mind. The teenager won the role and has since made the character his own.
He admires the talents of actors Edward Norton, Leonardo DiCaprio, Al Pacino Robert De Niro and Sean Penn and uses their influences in his work. Always a firm believer in clean living, Chad is a natural athlete. He played his favorite sport, football, in high school and keeps fit by working out at the gym, in-line skating, playing soccer, volleyball and basketball as well as football pick-up games. He is an anti-drug role model for kids and is active in charities for children and teens during his spare time. Before he married Sophia Bush on April 16th, 2005, Chad had set up house with a pug named Gus and a unique boisterous cat named Jack, who kept him from missing his large family too much.
Murray appeared in several guest-starring television roles, including an episode of Diagnosis Murder and an episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. In 1999, Murray was cast as Tristan DuGrey on Gilmore Girls. Murray then appeared in several TV movies, including Aftermath and Murphy's Dozen. Later that year, Murray appeared on Dawson's Creek.
In 2003, Murray appeared in Walt Disney Pictures' Freaky Friday alongside Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis. Murray also appeared in the TV movie The Lone Ranger as Luke Hartman. Later that year, Murray won the role Lucas Scott in The WB television series One Tree Hill. The series quickly became the channels hit with 4.50 million viewers on the first season's finale. Murray then appeared on the cover of many magazines such as Rolling Stone and People. That same year, Murray was voted as one of "TV's Sexiest Guys" in People magazine.
In 2004, Murray starred in the romantic comedy A Cinderella Story. Though the reviews were mostly negative, the film went on to become a moderate box office hit, and critics were impressed by Duff's performance. A Cinderella Story earned $66,068,046 worldwide and was a commercial success. The movie led to many 2006 Teen Choice Awards wins for many catogeries. Later that year, Murray was named one of the "Sexiest Men Alive" by People magazine.
In 2005, Murray starred in House of Wax. The movie grossed $12 million in its first three days. Though most critics were not impressed, House of Wax earned $68,766,121 worldwide. The movie led to many 2006 Teen Choice Awards wins for many catogeries including "Choice Movie Actor: Action Adventure Thriller".
His favorite fashion accessory is a hemp necklace that his father gave him. Got an accidental 'nose job' during his earlier modeling career! He was 'jumped' in a fast food restaurant and got his nose broken and had to have surgery. If you look closely, you can see the difference between his nose now and back then, because he had to get it fixed and it couldn't be constructed to the way it was.
In addition to his television work, Murray had a supporting role as the young version of Michael Biehn's character in "Megiddo: Omega Code 2", the 2001 sequel to the popular Christian action film "The Omega Code." He also had stints as the love interests of the reigning teen queens of the day, playing Lindsay Lohan's motorcycle-riding crush in the mother-daughter body-swapping hit comedy "Freaky Friday" (2003) and Hilary Duff's modern-day version of Prince Charming in "A Cinderella Story" (2004), a clunky contemporary retelling of the classic rags-to-riches tale. Murray then appeared in the not-too-faithful remake, “House of Wax” (2005), playing one half of a pair of fraternal twins (the other played by Elisha Cuthbert) who, along with three friends, get stranded in a ghost town on their way to a football game and ultimately trapped in a house of horrors with wax beings made from previous victims.
Underwent a resection of his small intestine as the result of a football injury, so he can't gain weight. His father Rex works as an air traffic controller. His mother abandoned his family when he was just 10 years old. Has 4 brothers (Rex, Nick, Brandon, and half brother Tyler) and a sister (Shannon). His favorite football team is the Buffalo Bills
His first job was when he was 10 delivering newspapers, then when he turned 14 he started working as a janitor at the local doughnut shop. His favorite book is "Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger. He has five dogs. A shepherd/wolf mix named Joe, which he takes everywhere with him. A french mastiff named Ozzie which was born with only one testicle, and Jared Padalecki calls him "nutclopse." A pomeranian named Charlie, A boxer/pit bull mix named Annie that belongs to his wife Sophia Bush and a guard dog named Axel which he bought Sophia for protection.
Ranked #22 in TV Guide's list of "TV's 25 Greatest Teen Idols" (23 January 2005 issue). His mom left his family when he was only 10 years old, which he says helps him to relate to his character Lucas Scott on "One Tree Hill" (2003). Modeled for Skechers, Tommy Hilfiger and Gucci. Said if he wasn't a actor he would love to be a pediatrician. His favorite movie is Fight Club (1999).
His favorite television show is "The Simpsons" (1989). Chad means: warlike, warrior. His hobbies are: Going to the gym, pickup basketball and football. His favorite musicians are Incubus, Dave Matthew's Band and 'Pete Murray'. 26 September 2005: Sophia Bush announced their separation. Was originally up for the role of Ryan Atwood on "The O.C." (2003), but turned it down for Lucas Scott on "One Tree Hill" (2003).
Wore a Ralph Lauren Black Label Suit in his April 2005 wedding to Sophia Bush. Chad and two of his "One Tree Hill" (2003) co-stars were on "Dawson's Creek" (1998) with him; Hilarie Burton (who plays Peyton Sawyer) and Lee Norris (who plays Mouth McFadden). Engaged to Kenzie Dalton, an extra on "One Tree Hill" (2003). His fiancée, Kenzie Dalton, is a 2006 graduate of John T. Hoggard High School in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Murray was married to Sophia Bush in April 16, 2005, whom he met on the set of One Tree Hill. Bush and Murray dated for almost two years before they got married. But five months later, Bush filed court papers to have their marriage annulled. After the divorce was finalized, Murray was engaged to Kenzie Dalton (born March 7, 1988), a former cheerleader extra on One Tree Hill.
