"It's great, it's really great. That's one of the wonderful things about working on the show. A lot of TV shows, you can get into this feeling like you're on autopilot, like you're almost doing the same episodes over and over again for years. The great thing about this show is every year it's different, the character's in a different place. You can accumulate all those things like you listed that happen to the character." |

Carlos Bernard Papierski (born October 12, 1962 in Evanston, Illinois), is an American actor, best known for his role as Tony Almeida in 24. Named one of People magazine’s "50 Most Beautiful People" in 2003, Carlos Bernard returns to 24 for his third season as Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) agent Tony Almeida.
Bernard received a Master of Fine Arts degree from American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco after attending Illinois State University. Made his first screen appearance in The Killing Jar (1996). One of his co-stars was Xander Berkeley, who went on to co-star with him again in "24" (2001).
Received his Master of Fine Arts degree from the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, after attending Illinois State University. Named one of People's 50 most beautiful people in 2003. While filming Season 2 of "24" (2001), he sprained his ankle while playing basketball, requiring him to stay on crutches. Luckily, the writers and producers were flexible enough to write out the on-screen injuries while letting him film episodes 16-21 with him being on crutches.
He and his TV wife, Reiko Aylesworth, were born in the same hospital. Has one daughter, Natalie (born August 2003).
Youngest of 3 brothers. He is a keen sportsman enjoying basketball, golf, skiing and
Judo. Likes fly fishing. His daughter's name is Natalie. Is of Spanish and Polish descent. Is fluent in Spanish. Big fan of the baseball team Chicago Cubs (he is seen holding a Cup with the Cubs logo on it in '24' Season 4). Carlos is Spanish (his mother's family was originally from Spain) and Polish (his father is from Poland).
Bernard has made guest appearances on Walker, Texas Ranger, F/X: The Series, Babylon 5, Maloney, and Silk Stalkings and appeared as a regular on the daytime soap opera, The Young and the Restless. He has appeared in the feature films Vegas-City of Dreams, The Killing Jar, and the short film The Colonel's Last Flight.
In 2001 he joined the cast of the FOX Network's television drama 24, where he played Tony Almeida, a government agent for a fictional agency called CTU (Counter Terrorist Unit). Bernard held the role for three seasons until his character, along with several others, was written out at the end of Season 3 (2004). His absence was short-lived, however, as he returned within the first seven hours of the fourth season (2005) credited as "Special Guest Star", and he remained on the show for the rest of the season.
His name returned to be credited on the main cast at fifth season (2006), and it was recently confirmed in a FOX press release that Carlos will return to the show in the season 7 premiere as a main cast member once more.
os is of Spanish (by way of his mother) and Polish (by way of his father) descent. Carlos Bernard married actress Sharisse Baker in 1999. They have one child, daughter Natalie, born in August, 2003.
